Trumpeter Swan
Cygnus buccinator
Synopsis: Breeds mostly in the vicinity of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, but some pairs have dispersed (or have been introduced) and have bred at widely scattered locations in other parts of eastern Oregon. Was introduced into Oregon by release of 126 birds between 1939 and 1958. Most notable are the records from Klamath, Baker, and Wallowa Counties.

Relative Detectability: Easily spotted, but breeding difficult to confirm.

Challenge: Confirm breeding by individuals observed away from traditional sites.
